For a while Mapquest was the KING of the world. It was one of the first online software offerings of its type. Many others tried but fell short. They were so tied into things that businesses would use them by default for their “Directions” link on their own pages. Then as with everything else GOOGLE decided to take a stab at it. At first, it wasn’t as easy to use at MapQuest but then it improved and GOOGLE has taken a good share of this market. Throw in GOOGLE Earth and the “wow effect” is certainly there.
However, they were not the only ones to improve themselves. Yahoo Maps has really done a fantastic job. The interface an interactive mapping are very impressive. MapQuest….sadly looks pretty much the same.
So Microsoft is taking a stab at integrations with their “decision engine” bing. So I thought I try it out here. The image you see above is for one of the places I like to eat at….Maggie McFlys. Looking at it you would say that it is a pretty specific shot. However, the reason why it is spot on is not because of bing but because of me….manually dragging the map until my place became visible. I’m not talking just a slight correction….bing was WAY off. Perhaps it was because I was using Windows Live Writer to make the app call to it….maybe “native bing” would have faired better.
I’m still a GOOGLE maps fan. What on-line mapping software do you find yourself using?
